Today, Java is used in popular apps such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google Play. Even though it is no longer developed by Sun or sponsored by Oracle, customers can still install it due to similarities in the operating system it runs on.
Netscape Navigator
In 1987, two companies, Netscape Communications Corporation and Sun Microsystems Inc., decided to team up to develop a web browser called Netscape Navigator.
The development of the browser was led by Netscape, while Sun designed the server side software. Both companies were very successful in their partnership and developed several versions of the same browser until 2005, when Internet Explorer 5 was released as the final version.
Since then, Internet Explorer has been improved and replaced by Windows XP SP2 Internet Explorer 6. It is important to note that even though this technology is more than 20 years old, it still powers many top websites today.

Sun Microsystems
