What do you picture when you think of a luxurious lifestyle? For many, it’s expensive items such as clothing, cars, vacations, and fine restaurants. If this is what comes to mind, it’s easy to feel discouraged and think that luxury is only available to people born into wealthy families. This is especially true when it seems like so many individuals are struggling with inflation just to have a few luxuries of life.

In reality, luxury has many different meanings, and it looks different for everyone. If you consider the luxury lifestyle you strive for, it’s simple to create one on a budget.

What is a luxurious lifestyle?

You might wonder how the definition of luxury can come down to just a few easy factors. Let us see what luxury truly is!

Luxury is a state of mind

It’s nice to know that you don’t need to worry about the things you have or how much you are spending, but instead how you feel.

Consider something you bought a lot of your money on that made you feel like you had really deluxe possessions. It wasn’t the commodity or place that gave you this feeling – it was your feelings about it. You do not have to spend a lot of money to feel the same enjoyment.

Luxury is subjective

What you find luxurious might not be luxurious for others. If you like being pampered at the spa, you’ll love it. That sounds like a terrible way to spend a weekend for someone else.

For someone else, being invited to great events might appear luxurious, but that’s the last thing you want to spend your money on.

The problem is that we often put too much emphasis on the opinions that people have of what it means to be a luxurious lifestyle. We overspend on things that we really don’t care about. The key is determining what a luxury lifestyle means to you.

A luxurious lifestyle is about comfort and convenience

What were some of the most luxurious moments in your life? I imagine that for most, it was about having a comfortable experience.

Maybe it was staying at an upscale resort, kicking back by a pool. Or perhaps it was splurging on the single most comfortable pair of shoes you’ve ever owned that also costs a lot more than the rest of your shoes.

At the end of the day, comfort is key. Because comfort is also entirely subjective, it differs for each person.

How to live a luxurious lifestyle on a budget

Are you ready to start living a more luxurious lifestyle? Here are some tips on how to do that on just about any budget!

Create more free time in your schedule

There’s just something about free time that feels luxurious, and we seldom allocate it to ourselves in our schedules. Between work, family, pet care, and children’s activities, there is almost always something scheduled. Yet, we overlook that with some exceptions, we can control our schedules.

If you have trouble finding spare time in your schedule, just schedule it as you would anything else. Schedule it on the calendar, and treat it like an obligation you cannot break. Then, when it’s time to sit back, you can do so without having to worry about a thing. Freeing time up on its own is inarguably important when it comes to a luxurious lifestyle.

Slow down to enjoy the luxuries of life

To gain more free time in your schedule, you can also enjoy just slowing down while moving through it. Think about the enjoyable little moments that you aren’t able to appreciate while you’re rushing through your day. Your morning coffee. Your evening stroll with your dog. Playing with your children. Cooking dinner with your partner.

We often hurry through these everyday events that we take for granted as if they were free. These are the best luxuries of life!

Declutter your home

Consider how luxurious it is to live in a nice hotel or home. There is lots of space, it’s clean, and there are no unwanted items. You don’t need to pay for a hotel room to have this kind of comfort. Decluttering your home can be just as productive. When your surroundings is uncluttered, you will feel better, more relaxed, and more productive at focusing on the positive aspects of your life.

Prioritize quality over quantity

It’s undeniable that pricey items and those that are commonly regarded as “luxury items” can be expensive. And while this is true, they’re often worth it in the long run. When you buy quality products, they will last much longer and you won’t need to constantly replace them.

Frequently, we buy things on impulse. With some time and a small amount of effort, you could easily find a better quality version of the same item. Take a look at our list of expensive items that every lady should have.

Focus on the little comforts for a luxurious lifestyle

There are many little and inexpensive things that to decorate your home and create the luxurious feel of a spa day. Many people enj oy the luxurious feeling of a spa day, but by purchasing a few candles, a face mask, and bubble bath, you can recreate that feeling at home.

Whatever is luxurious to you, find ways to incorporate it into your life on a daily basis. It’s more affordable than splurging on a bigger model, and you’ll enjoy a little taste of luxury every day.

Another way to take advantage of small comforts is to purchase smart home products. The cost of many of these items is relatively modest, but recent studies indicate that millennials place the most value on smart home technology.

Shop secondhand

With a lower budget, you can still afford luxury items. The used market on Facebook Marketplace and other secondhand websites makes it easy to find upscale products at inexpensive prices.

You might be surprised at what you can find. Many high-end items are sold at steep discounts. During a garage sale, I once found a purse for $300 for only $30. The price tag was still on the interior of the bag, and it was never used.

The growing popularity of luxury pre-owned goods has led many to prefer shopping at online auction sites over traditional ones. Auctions are growing four times faster than the primary luxury market and are primarily responsible for this growth. As a result, it is easy to find used luxury items.

Look for discounts and coupons

Check out whether there are any online coupons or discounts, or check to see if a store has any annual sales events.

There are many online discount sites that allow you to find coupons and discounts. For instance, if you want to do a night on the town with your significant other but money is tight, you can check sites such as Groupon for restaurant coupons.

Make small but meaningful upgrades to your home

Consider remodeling your home to make a few small changes that feel especially comfortable. Think about where you spend a lot of time and consider making several little upgrades that will improve your home’s comfort level.

Maybe it is worthwhile to change the headboard of your bed or change the lighting fixtures in your office. These small changes can improve your comfort level in areas that you spend a great deal of time in.

Even most luxury consumers have abandoned non-essentials like jewelry and fine art and have begun purchasing more necessary household items.

Cook restaurant-quality meals at home

For many, the idea of having a fancy restaurant dinner and luxurious wine and food sounds luxurious. Unfortunately, most of us can’t afford to do that on a regular basis.

The good news is that it is entirely possible to reproduce the meals in your own home. While it will likely cost a bit more than your average grocery store trip, it will be a lot less expensive than dining in at a restaurant. You can create the ambiance you desire for free.

Calculate the “cost per use” for expensive items

It is easy to talk yourself out of buying expensive items, thinking they aren’t worth the price. But in some cases, they actually may be dependent on the cost per use.

Consider the many inexpensive things you’ve purchased over the years and barely used. This is very common with clothing. These items may not cost much, but you may also not obtain much use out of them.

But if you buy an expensive product that you actually enjoy, you will use it more. It might cost you less per use than the lower-priced items you purchased.

Make time to experience new things

It is incredibly exciting to take journeys to new places, even if you aren’t exploring areas or customs that you’ve previously seen. Travel affords you the chance to enjoy new experiences every day.

The good news is that you don’t have to travel to enjoy these luxuries. It’s possible that there is a great deal in your city, or even nearby, that you’ve never experienced before.

Even if it’s simply walking through a new neighborhood or hiking in a new location, it can feel exciting and recreate that excitement you get on a vacation.

Prioritize what’s most important to your luxurious lifestyle

one of my favorite sayings is that you can buy anything you want, but you cannot buy everything. And when we attempt to splurge in every way, we run into problems and have to revise our objectives.

Rather than lusting after everything you consider to be luxurious, focus on what is important to you. If you can prioritize your possessions, you can then invest more in those things and less elsewhere.

I would find myself shopping on websites like Instagram or Facebook for nice clothing and fashionable cosmetics posted by influencers. But when I actually needed these items, I found that they didn’t interest me. Now that I’m aware of that, I can choose to save in areas that are of more importance.

Focus on your relationships

When we think of luxury, we often think of things that we can buy. However, the most luxurious thing we have is time with the people we love.

Think about your most wonderful times. It may have been a romantic dinner with your spouse or a weekend at a luxury spa with your best friend. I suspect that many of the occasions I observed were similar in that you had a good time with an individual close to you.

By focusing on our relationships, we can create those same luxurious moments for a fraction of the price.

You can live a luxurious lifestyle!

We often think that “luxury” has a predetermined meaning, but that simply isn’t the case. Luxury is subjective and it means something different to everyone. The key is to figure out what a luxurious lifestyle means to you and find ways to copy it for less.
